The Absolute Best Sautéed Mushroom Recipe!

My family absolutely loves mushrooms. We eat mushrooms with nearly everything and it is a commonly requested food item for birthday meals and special occasions. We’ve always tried finding new mushroom recipes that would end up tasting bland and boring until we came up with this absolutely flavor-packed sautéed mushroom recipe. Instead of simply cooking mushrooms in butter or their own water, in this recipe, the mushrooms cook in a fragrant, delicious sauce. With a mixture of soy sauce, olive oil, butter, garlic, thyme, and white wine, mushrooms are transformed it into a next level side dish that leaves everyone wanting more!

Over the past few months, we’ve continued experimenting with this recipe and modifying the amounts of each ingredient we add. We’ve also found that this recipe is fantastic for cooking bok-choy, swiss-chard, and collard greens. Just replace the mushrooms with the chosen ingredient, adjust the cooking time of the ingredient accordingly, and you’re all set!

This mushroom recipe pairs very nicely with burgers (I’ve only tried it with vegetarian burgers) and goes great just as a side dish to spice up your everyday meals! I haven’t tried this but I think these mushrooms would make a wonderful addition to any creamy pasta dish. Let me know down in the comments if you’ve tried this!

Don’t be overwhelmed by the fancy ingredients required by this recipe! Trust me, the mushrooms are pretty forgiving when it comes to over or under cooking them and if you follow the directions, you shouldn’t encounter any difficulties.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb white mushrooms (brown, cremini, or portobello would work fine as well)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter or Coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons white wine
  • 1 pinch dried thyme or 1 sprig fresh thyme
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Always remember to clean your mushrooms! This is easily done by using a paper towel to wipe the outside of the mushroom or with a mushroom brush. Once the mushrooms have been cleaned, chop them into slices roughly 1/2-inch thick.
  2. Add the oil and butter or coconut oil to a pan and turn on the stove to medium heat.Allow the oil and butter to heat up and then add the mushrooms and soy sauce. Quickly mix the two together until the mushrooms are evenly coated in soy sauce.Once the mushrooms and soy sauce are combined, stop stirring and allow the mushrooms to cook undisturbed for about 3 minutes to let them brown on one side. Flip the mushrooms to the other side and allow them to brown on the other side for about 2 minutes.
  3. Now its time to add the white wine! Pour the white wine over the mushrooms and allow the white wine to partially evaporate for about 2-3 minutes without stirring the pan.
  4. Add the garlic and thyme to the mushroom mixture and continue cooking for another 3 minutes, stirring the pan every 30 seconds or so, until everything is fully cooked. Season it with salt and pepper according to taste and enjoy!
